Noir
Brando Vanschoyck
A full-length is a different animal from a single. The record has to hold together across forty minutes, and the songs have to sound like they were made in the same place by the same people, without turning into the same song. Noir needed a consistent sound that still let each track breathe.
The room gave it a fixed point of view. Same chair, same monitors, same set of decisions from the first day of tracking to the final master, so the low end sits in the same place on track nine that it did on track one. Tape went on where the arrangements wanted weight, and stayed off where they wanted air.
